Let’s Amend the Second Amendment

Here’s what we need to do: amend the 2nd Amendment.

Let me say up front that I have a visceral resistance to any attempt to disarm he working class. For the government to have a monopoly on violence is to invite tyranny of the worst sort. Hard stop.

On the other hand, and these are not contradictory, people’s right to knock on the wrong door without being shot is more important than my right to own and use weapons without any restrictions whatsoever.

First off, let’s take out that confusing language about a well-regulated militia. It’s just not relevant, as it was when the 2nd Amendment was written. There are endless debates on what it really means in today’s world, that don’t accomplish anything.

Then, let’s enumerate some of the ways that the right to keep and bear arms can be infringed. I’m not going to go into a list of what I would add to that list. What I do want to say is that we need to stop letting the judges decide for all of us. How about “we the People” having a debate via the constitutional amendment process and come up with some stuff that most of us already agree with, but which are being blocked by the intransigent Walter Mitty’s who live among us.
